Today..

Western society has defined faith and belief in God as a cognitive thing. I way of thinking. A certainty of knowing…comprehending..explaining ..

We must control it, have to “get it”, are afraid to have it wrong, but quite certain we all have it right.

What if faith though, is to be seen as what we put our hope and trust in? What exactly, if was lost, would break us?

Filled with all that rusts and shatters..

Things of earthly matter…

And what if, it is taking all that stuff away…and seeing how it decays…gets us to wake up and say..

Now that all I once leaned, depended, and was standing on, is out of the way.

What if faith is what we REALLY hope and depend on? What do our own fears and anxieties at this puzzling time tell us of…

Our faith and love. What we truly trust…hold sacred and lust.

Why do you labor for that which does not satisfy?

Sometimes, things we so cling to, are threatened to be stripped from us. I can’t say if it’s God’s doing, sin, a part of this broken mess..or who’s hand from which loss is dealt with certainty.

But I can say, there is some strange order to it all. An awakening component. It gets people’s ears and eyes opened to more necessary things and it is usually the ache that brings the most change.

“Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David. “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord , that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord . For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble”.
